Sunday 16th August 2026 10:30-13:30 Red Door Ceramics 58 Cinque Ports Street Rye TN31 7AN Shelley from Ways of Seeing and Sara from Red Door Ceramics have had great fun experimenting with the process of combining gel plate printing and ceramics and they’re ready to start offering workshops for up to five people at Red Door Ceramics Studio. This brand new workshop provides an opportunity to come and play with underglaze, nature-inspired stencils, mark-making tools and pre-made, bisque-fired ceramic pieces that are ready for you to decorate. You’ll have 2 medium sized cylindrical vases to decorate along with a choice of up to 3 square tiles and/or round plaques. We’ll start by giving you a demonstration focusing on gel plate printing and the process of decorating ceramics. You’ll then have a go at using the gel plate by printing onto card with ceramic underglazes. This part of the workshop will help you get used to using the underglaze on a gel plate – it reacts differently compared to acrylic paint, so we want to make sure that you are comfortable with this process before moving onto the ceramics. From these prints you’ll create up to five greeting cards using trifold card frames and five postcards. You’ll then be ready to select your five bisque-fired pieces to decorate. All materials for this workshop are included in the cost, including the firing of the ceramic pieces. You will be required to collect your pieces after firing and we will inform you when this is, but this should be no longer than two weeks after the workshop has taken place.
